Geographic distribution of confinement areas including feedlots, concentrated animal feeding operations, and supplementary feeding areas, in the dry diagonal in South America

Class Description

We identified 253 large industrialized feedlots (red) and more than 3200 medium-sized concentrated animal feeding operations (yellow), together containing an estimated 13 million cattle heads and more than 4000 supplementary feeding sites on pastures (purple).

Data Availability

The Confinement areas are displayed with limited zoom-in option because it could potentially increase the vulnerability of smallholders and/or results in (re-)identification of households.
The raw data are maintained at the Conservation Biogeography Lab, Geography Department of Humboldt-University Berlin.
